How can a client find his personal code?

From 18 November 2025 it will be necessary, when filing at Companies House a company’s Confirmation Statement or the document notifying the appointment of a new director, to quote every director’s (or the new director’s) Companies House personal ID verification code. This is an eleven character code consisting of letters and numbers in the format OOO-OOOO-OOOO.

An individual can get a personal code issued either by dealing directly with Companies House online or though an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) such as the company’s accountant. The individual will then need to quote that code when filing the company’s Confirmation Statement themselves, or provide their code to whoever is filing the Confirmation Statement on their company’s behalf.

The personal code is shown on screen when the individual’s identity is first verified, or emailed to the individual (using an email address input as part of the ID verification process).

But in practice accountants are finding that individuals whose ID has been verified do not know their code and do not know how to find it.

Finding your personal ID code

So here is an easy step by step guide to finding your personal ID code.

  1. Start by going to https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-a-company.
  2. Click the green “Start now” button.
  3. On the next page, click Sign in/Register (top right-hand side).
  4. On the next page, click the link to sign in with GOV.UK One Login.
  5. On the next page, click the grey “Sign in” button.
  6. On the next page, enter the email you used for GOV.UK One Login and click the green “Continue” button.
  7. On the next page, enter your GOV.UK One Login password and click the green “Continue” button.
  8. On the next page, enter the six-digit code texted to your mobile phone and click the green “Continue” button.
  9. Then you are in – you should see a menu across the top of the page: Manage account/ Your filings/ Companies you follow/ Basket (0)/ Sign out.
  10. If you go to “Manage account”, you should see your 11-character personal code.
  11. There is also a grey “Copy” button you can click to copy your code accurately.
  12. You can then paste the code into an email or text message to whoever is filing the Confirmation Statement.

I hope that is helpful.
